Everyone by now must have seen Muto the epic eight minute stop frame animation from Italian artist Blu. Well, to my delight he’s just completed a new film as part of the Fame festival which kicked off in Grottaglie Italy on the 19th of September this year. It’s called Combo and this time it’s a collaboration with David Ellis who has been making similar animations as part of Barnstormers since 1999.

At noon tomorrow Barack Obama places his hand on the bible and takes his oath of office. CNN, with a little help from Microsoft’s Photosynth and a million friends, plan to create the most detailed experience of a single moment ever. They are asking everyone attending the inauguration to take a photo at noon and send it to them. They will then use Photosynth to stitch all the shots together in a 3D space which should be spectacular – let’s hope it’s more successful than John King’s virtual pie chart.
Of course they could crowd-sorce video footage too, as Michel Gondry did for the live video of Daft Punk’s HARDER BETTER FASTER STRONGER. Maybe next time.
Perhaps the most amazing, creative and ambitious stop frame animation I’ve ever seen by artist Blu from Bologna
Soon to be appearing on walls of Tate modern.

A sneaky peek at Director Guy Ritchie’s two minute blockbuster for the new Nike Total 90 football boot. You can see the full version on ITV before Manchester United’s Champions League tie with Barcelona tonight. Influenced by Prodigy’s Smack my Bitch Up perchance?

Dieter and Lung of Perish Factory have directed this awesome, and, dare I say it, cute music video for Bomb The Bass, called Butterfingers. For the unfamiliar, it’s an analogue synth/sequencer/groovebox, of no particular type, made in felt. Each button and control has a unique character and role in the video that sustains viewing all the way to the witty end. In Dieter’s own words there was “no real trickery to the making of it, just lots of hands, a lot of puppets, a lot of takes and a crap load of duct tape in the back holding things together”. Check it out here.

Seeing David’s earlier post, titled ’Flaming Logos’, it was clear that a lot of work was put into recreating those 80s motion graphics logos. Plenty of 3D and a good dose of Flame or After Effects I’d wager.
After Effects, Schmafter Effects. Check out how they did this back in the day…
Who needs Maya when you’ve got 6 craftsmen sweating night and day over 3 months, a motion control camera from the ark, and some old school ingenuity.
Hey, I know it’s a 10 minute video, but trust me it’s worth it just for the soundtrack… Altogether now, “Pay a little closer attention to detail…All the things you’re taking for granted… Are just as important as what you see”

What inspired this video for DVNO by Justice? With scores of flying, exploding, 3D, rainbow and chrome logos – it can only be 80’s TV graphics. Motion by Machinemolle and designed by So me, the talent behind last year’s awesome Justice video – D.A.N.C.E. (via Stereogum)

CR Blog is at the Design Indaba in Cape Town and reports on a talk by graphic design legend Ivan Chermayeff. This animation of hundreds of logos that his studio has designed is a real gem. Chock full of famous brands such as Mobil, National Geographic and Chase Manhattan, it’s ten minutes long – if you don’t have the time just watch the quick rewind in the last five seconds (caution – flashing images) (via CR Blog)

Mad Men will make you a happier person. It’s the US show about a 1960’s Madison Avenue ad agency that will make your teeth whiter and it’s coming to the UK on BBC4 – tonight. Created by Sopranos writer Matthew Weiner, it’s a realistic portrayal of a lost time in advertising and American history, before equality, smoking related illness and car seatbelts. Cigarettes, whiskey and discrimination is encouraged in the workplace, but as you’ll find out, not without consequences. The show has a great cast and production values, so satisfaction is guaranteed. AMC’s site for the show also has some nice clips of Ad Legends.
