You’d think the fact that I’m too old, too short, a pacifist and oh yeah, English, may effect my chances of being an officer in the Swedish Armed Forces, but apparently not! According to the results from a series of exercises testing your multi-tasking skills, your spacial awareness, you concentration and memory, I may have what it takes! A great site, well put together, lovely graphics and great sound, plug in your headphones and see how you get on. Link

For all you old skool gamers, heres a blast from the past. Zzap 64 magazine launched in 1985 was a monthly mag that I purchased back in the day for my Commodore 64. Every cover was a beautiful hand drawn illustration by Oli Frey up to issue 63. If you remember either the Commodore 64 or vaguely remember the cover artwork take a look at the entire archive here.

If you haven’t found a reason to buy PlayStation 3 yet, LittleBigPlanet by Media Molecule might just be it. Originally titled Craft-World, the emphasis is on creativity – players can build their own levels and customise any character or object within the game using simple modelling tools, then share them on the PlayStation Network. The characters can then co-operate or compete to complete the obstacle course. All the objects are made of real world materials and obey the laws of physics so there’s no script or one solution for solving a problem. The felt trees and rag-doll heroes give the game a warm, fuzzy feel and this demo also has an apt choice of music – it’s The Go Team!
Also, don’t miss the other great demo of the modelling tools shown at GDC this year.

It’s 1982 and I’m doodling a game of asteroids into my exercise book case during double Math. I’m imagining the little spaceship blowing up that big rock and…
…Cut to 2007 and I need imagine no more. Sketchfighter 4000 Alpha is a completely hand-drawn arcade game from Ambrosia and Lost Minds. I’ve been addicted to Swoop and Maelstrom in the past so I expect I’ll be losing many hours to Sketchfighter yet. Have you noticed the hand-drawn gaming trend? It has a two-player mode, an Internet multiplayer mode and a level editor for players to sketch their own battlegrounds. Now, where’s that exercise book?

Have a go at the very simple but very addictive Line Rider and then look at what can be achieved. What I want to know is does he support Arsenal or Manchester United? Happy holidays!

Once upon a time we used to think that anybody talking to themselves in the street were probably schizophrenic. Bluetooth headphones changed all that and now everyone talks to themselves everywhere. In the future we’ll be even more expressive, contorting our bodies publicly as we order virtual pizzas. In the meantime we can practice with Wii. Image by Mr Dude from the Wii Motion Flickr pool.

Impressive tv ad by Fallon for Travelers Insurance. A man falls over on a steep hill and becomes a Katamari Damacy-esque rolling ball of people, cars and junk. The concept works and it’s well executed but, it’s not totally original. PSP’s Japanese ad for Katamari Damacy got there first. (via Motionographer)

Here’s a compilation of the Nintendo DS Super Mario Bros promotional sponsors that are shown during late night comedy shows on Channel 4. Created by Leo Burnett, the sketches involve people dressed in black to blend in with the background while using props and objects to simulate a lifesize rendition of Super Mario and other Nintendo titles.
You may see similarities with a U.S College Student’s talent show entry which became an internet video phenomenon among fans.

A superb insight into EA Sports gameplay innovations for the Playstation 3. This clip is from a recent Sony press conference demonstrating the much improved awareness & movement PS3 technology gives the gamer. Can’t wait for it to launch, better get the thumbs into training!
