Flight Patterns

image

Flight Patterns is a data visualisation project by University of California, Santa Cruz alumn, Aaron Koblin. Using data from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration he has created animations of flight traffic patterns and density with a beauty that belie their number-crunched origins. Even without the geography of the United States landmarks and patterns emerge. Link.

Now in its third year, E-Stings offers young film makers the chance to get their work on Channels 4’s E4 and win a commission worth £15,000. Entrants were asked to create as many six-ten second stings, the stings could be of any subject matter but had to include the E4 logo within it. To decide the winner the 23 shortlisted were then put up onto the E4 website for a Big Brother style public vote. Lina Kouznetsova won the 2005 E-Stings competition, with her entry Scratch, pictured above.
