Things Magazine bring you The Pelican Project, hard to pick a favourite decade or cover, the 60’s and 70’s are where most of the superb graphic solutions are. My favourite changes everytime I visit the site, some are above, but today it’s ‘How Children Fail’

Ca L N Da R 2008 – geddit? Simple, witty, beautiful idea by Noa Bembibre.
My favourite month is Oh No, Casio Stole The Numbers. Now available at Noa’s site.

Get a festive design fix at The Design Grotto, at Somerset House next weekend (same place where you can make a fool of yourself on an ice rink every Christmas). It looks like a fun event with interactive stalls, creative workshops and unique gifts for under £20. Stallholders include Beyond the Valley, Multistorey, If You Could, Johnson Banks and Tatty Devine. Oh, and Michael Johnson will be Father Christmas this year (not really, but wouldn’t he be good?).

Time to brush up on your design history: Pentagram asked Hillman Curtis to make a short film about them. At the start Paula Scher narrates the partners’ various comings and goings (and demises) at breakneck speed – pay attention at the back!
Did you know that although named Pentagram for the five partners in 1972 (Alan Fletcher was reading a book on black magic at the time) the name only made sense for two years, when they grew to six? Mind you, with seventeen partners now, Pentagram sounds better than Heptadecagram. Link (via Core77)

I work with some fairly style-savvy folk. Today was a particularly good day for T-shirts in the studio. Link.

Sign found in Rutland, VT. They just need to cut the hole so that you can put your face through it, then it’s perfect. Reminded me of this.

Stella Artois has just re-launched their site with a delicious piece of typographic film inspired by 1920’s poster typography. Artois has produced a flurry of great work lately (see here, here) and the animation is as striking and witty as any of their print ads. The film works as a tour around the site that brings together existing and new content including all the commercials. Link

The Astrogeology Research Program is a team of 80 reseachers, cartographers, computer scientists and students working to explore and map our solar system. From carrying out scientific analysis and remote sensing they have created some really beautiful abstract maps. The moon maps are especially nice and available to download from here.

Take a trip to the clever website of James & Joe – a young creative team from Leeds University. If you want to take a closer look at their work you can simply drag and click to zoom because it’s all powered by Google Maps. They have some entertaining work too, especially the I Heart MY MUM T-shirts (although they might need an I Heart MY MOM design for the US too).
Definitely ones to watch, which shouldn’t be difficult since you’ll also find them at blogspot, Flickr, Myspace, YouTube, Facebook…
