Size Doesn’t Matter

You may mistake the above for a collection of early nineties rave visuals, however these are infact the winners of the 2006 Small World Photomicrography Competition that showcase the beauty and complexity of life as seen through the light microscope.
The competition was open to the public; images that cut the final selection included; Wing scales of a Sunset Moth, a Fruit Fly larvae, Annelid Worms embryo, Mouse’s small Intestine and a Pupil of a freshwater Shrimp to name just a few. The top prize was awarded to Dr. Paul Appleton, for his stunning 2-Photon fluorescence image of a cell nuclei of a Mouse Colon. If you see yourself as a budding photomicrographer apply here for 2007. In the meantime, mum do you reckon I can have a microscope for Christmas?
