“Bastille Day Fireworks” (top) and “M1.4 in AR10663”(bottom) are a couple of beautiful images from the TRACE (Transition Region And Coronal Explorer) solar research satellite. Launched in 1998, it has already returned a massive database of high-resolution images and movies of the Sun, available on the TRACE website. All the images may be used without restrictions in publications of any kind, unlike NASA images, which are restricted to information, education and personal use. If you ever need a fantastic image on a low/no budget, bookmark TRACE. (via Pruned)
