About 30gms
Not just the recommended daily dose of Fibre, 30gms is also a new design blog created by London design practice Fibre. 30gms is dedicated to exploring design and visual culture with your odd bit on found type, kerning and poorly placed apostrophes. They’re fastidious those Fibre folk.
The views expressed on this website are the views of the contributors to it and not necessarily the views of Fibre.
Nathan Usmar Lauder
Co-founded Fibre, which has naturally led to many a design award and much creative fulfilment. Also important in his life: trying to make down-at-the-heels seaside town St. Leonards cool. Fighting the good fight, Nathan has a keen interest in local politics.
David Rainbird
The day after he got married David Rainbird shocked his wife by font-spotting in her hometown. Since then he’s revealed himself as someone who will stop at nothing to combat bad apostrophes. He’s also co-founded Fibre, taken home a yellow pencil and a few other awards. He works remotely and lives even more remotely in Upstate NY. He owns a chainsaw.
Liz Greening
Liz has worked as a producer with small creative design agencies for twelve years. She is an expert at cross-stitch and wrangling print reps. She proudly lives in Beckenham with her two children.
Vikesh Bhatt
Only 24, Vik could be called the “most promising young British designer of the day.” In fact he probably has after winning first prize in New Designers 2004, a commendation from the D&AD and creating a five-user electronic musical instrument that’s been exhibited at the Science Museum and in the DKNY shop on Bond Street. His most embarrassing fact: he still lives in Milton Keynes with his parents.
John Alexander
John likes all the good things about the ’80s like early synthesizers, Anime cartoons and Prince (before he forgot who he was). Of course he’s too young to even know about the bad ’80s stuff like Margaret Thatcher, shoulder pads and Roland Rat – and we hope it stays that way. Does a nice line in illustration too.
Dave Brown
Design savant and photographer, he also has penchant for Landmark Trust properties and dressing up as a monkey on TV. (He got fan mail for it). Dave is a member of the Mighty Boosh, a role that’s recently had him touring with the group. He claims that stand-up is far easier than design.
Gary Butcher
Gary is an ex-pat motion graphics director living in CA. His recent arrival in the States was preceded by stints at Spin, Liquid TV, Fibre and Moving Brands. He finds it much better riding his bike in the sunshine of Silicon Valley and is still impressed with the two lemon trees in his garden.
Kirsten Gracie
Kirsten is a pedigree freelance senior designer. After backpacking Australia, South Africa and Brazil she exported herself to Sydney in 2003. She is pioneering an Anglo-Japanese style cottage pot garden.
Jennifer Kabat
Jen lives works and writes in London and Margaretville, NY. She scribes about architecture and design (among other things) and occasionally advises and writes for big companies. She’s decided that writing is a bit like making lace out of very plain string and in that way is like crafting. Only her craft mistakes often look better and more three-dimensional than her writing ones which all remain flat on paper.
Ruth Kent
Miss Kent does business development for small London design firms and works on the London Design Festival. Most importantly she has a fledgling band playing “post-punk electro drawl-sleaze.” NME, you read it here first.
